Senate President Gary Stevens Issues Statement on Governor Dunleavy’s Proposed FY2026 Budget
The Proposed Budget is a Starting Point for the Legislature to Address the Needs of Alaskans
Anchorage, AK - Earlier this afternoon, Governor Mike Dunleavy released his proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which must be submitted to the legislature by December 15 each year. The legislature will convene on January 21, 2025, to consider the proposed budget and other legislative priorities. Senate President Gary Stevens, R-Kodiak, issued the following statement:
“Alaska continues to face unique challenges across the state while having limited financial resources. The Senate Majority is committed to continuing our focus on providing adequate funding for public education, finding solutions to Alaska’s high energy and healthcare costs, resolving the state’s inability to recruit and retain teachers and public employees to support critical state services, and finding ways to address our ongoing outmigration of families from Alaska.
“As always, the governor’s proposed budget is just the beginning of the process. Throughout the upcoming legislative session, the Senate will focus on what is essential to Alaskans that serves their basic needs, supports public education, grows our economies, and finds solutions to many of the challenges we face. Just as we went through a successful and extensive budgeting process over the past two years, we will continue to look through our financial lens with bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility to protect our future.”
