I am honored to represent the people of the Kenai Peninsula. I am working toward safer roads, effective schools, and securing affordable and reliable energy. There is much to do and I'm happy to work on behalf of Kenai Peninsula families to help our communities prosper.

For the next two years I’ll chair the Senate transportation committee where I will work to ensure our roads are well plowed and maintained. Also, we will investigate issues with project delays and work to ensure area projects meet the needs of our communities on the Kenai Peninsula. We got to work immediately with our first hearing with DOT this week.

I was glad to host the Soldotna Stars girls basketball team at the Capitol when they traveled to Juneau recently. They had a great tour and learned a lot about Alaska history and government.

Last weekend I was blessed to go moose hunting with twelve Nikiski kids and some awesome adult volunteers. Most of these kids had never been out hunting ever before! Big thanks to Nikiski Middle/High School teachers, many parents, The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International and ADF&G for doing an amazing job at supporting this impressively hands-on learning opportunity.

The educational moose permit that the KPSCI receives allows for the taking of a cow without a calf or a bull with less than 3 brow tines and a spread less than 50”. We were very fortunate to harvest this young bull.

The students were excited to get in on all the action. They stalked the moose and learned all about what it takes to take a moose from the field and make it into nourishing food for their families. The kids, with support of volunteers, worked hard to process all the meat. Then they got to take it home for their families to eat.

Our Nikiski Middle Schoolers continue to impress. Thanks again to all the parents who make opportunities like this possible! The kids love your support of their learning.
