Alaskans deserve election transparency and accountability. Many of you are troubled by the length of time it took to learn the results after last November’s election. In the Senate State Affairs Committee, we are looking into the issue of delayed election results. Waiting over two weeks for the vote totals does not encourage public trust in the election process. I am dedicated to working with the Division to report available vote counts to the public as soon as possible.

 

 

Alaska Supreme Court Chief Justice Daniel Winfree delivered the annual State of the Judiciary to the Alaska Legislature on Wednesday. He addressed the court’s backlog of cases, mainly stemming from COVID-19, and the steps the court is taking to make the trial process move more quickly. This includes installing video conferencing equipment in detention centers, so that prisoners do not have to be taken to court buildings for every hearing, saving time, transportation costs, and improving public safety.
