Hello!

Work on the state operating budget ramps up this week in the Senate. The Finance Committee will be taking public testimony on Friday afternoon, and you’ll find details below on how to participate.

Several of my bills are advancing quickly. Senate Bill 211, which extends several professional boards, has moved from the Finance Committee to the Rules Committee and will soon head to the Senate floor. Senate Bill 170, allowing electronic pull tabs for charities and nonprofits, received its first hearing in Senate Finance. Senate Bill 207, aimed at addressing squatting and real estate fraud, is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, February 25. You can follow the progress of all the bills I’ve sponsored on the Legislature’s website.

The House also passed a supplemental budget request from the Dunleavy Administration this week. The Senate Finance Committee will take it up on Wednesday the 25th. I will be reviewing this spending bill closely to ensure it remains focused on urgent state obligations and on restoring critical road projects that were previously defunded by line item vetoes.

I will be on the Kenai this weekend to hear your ideas and concerns directly. Details on these meetings are included below. I look forward to seeing you at one of these events.

This week is an excellent opportunity to provide testimony about the State Budget. Your opinion on financial priorities like Roads, Schools, Public Safety and the PFD matters. The Senate Finance Committee is taking public testimony this Friday, the 27th, at 1:30 pm. You can testify at the Legislative Information Office at 145 Main Street in Kenai or by calling 1-844-586-9085.

Alaskans deserve strong protections and swift remedies when their homes are unlawfully occupied. As “squatting” becomes more common—especially in seasonally vacant homes—owners are often forced into lengthy, costly legal battles designed for landlord-tenant disputes, not trespassers. I sponsored Senate Bill 207 to create a clear process allowing property owners to request prompt law enforcement assistance when no rental agreement or ownership interest exists. The bill has its first hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee this week.
