Many of my Senate colleagues and I are strongly opposed to Joe Biden’s National Park Service rule change that would limit Alaskans’ ability to hunt and trap on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. There is no scientific evidence to support the rule change. This gross example of federal overreach is a violation of the Alaska Statehood compact and ANILCA. The deadline for public comment is Monday, March 27 at 11:59 pm.

Kenai residents Matt and Teresa Mannhardt came to Juneau to show their sons Braden and Kaeden Alaska’s capital city and our Legislature in action. It was great to have a chance to visit with them while they were here.

Our state economists report that Alaska is experiencing outmigration of our most productive workforce. I believe a strong educational system, with many vocational education opportunities and incentives to stay in state are vital to ensuring that Alaskan work is done by Alaskans. I support rebuilding the education tax credit program to encourage private sector investment in our schools and universities.

Congratulations to Samantha Springer, the new Executive Director of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center. I look forward to the benefits her hard work will bring to our community.
