I appreciate the participation I got from all of you at our town hall meetings in Kenai and Nikiski over the weekend. Thanks for taking time out of your Saturday to come. Not able to make it? You can give me your thoughts on Alaska’s budget by taking my survey.

I presented the set net buyback bill, Senate Bill 82, in the Senate Resources Committee. This bill will allow for the potential buyout of hundreds of east side setnet permits with zero impact to the State’s Treasury. By lowering the number of east side setnets we’ll reduce the commercial harvest of king salmon. The setnet buyback bill is a responsible move for conservative management that puts fish first and was drafted with years of input from stakeholders.

The Senate Labor and Commerce Committee is working to increase the number of practicing veterinarians in our state by allowing candidates with the internationally recognized PAVE certification to work in Alaska. The provision was added to Rep. Ruffridge’s HB 56 which would protect pet owner’s privacy when their pets require medication.
