DOT Requests Local Input on Highway Project from Sterling to Soldotna

Alaska DOT has prioritized the Sterling Highway Safety Corridor for improvements with the goal of making the highway from Soldotna to Sterling safer and easier to use. Initially, this project was planned as a divided four lane highway with a depressed median. This design has limited driveway and left turn access with the goal of two median breaks per mile to allow for direct left turns at higher traffic intersections. Other left turns would require U-turns at the next median break.

Many community members have expressed concern with this type of design and have reached out to my office with feedback. I encourage everyone to visit the project website for more detailed information and sign up for informational updates. Also, DOT sent out the following information announcing public meetings they are holding on the project. I encourage community members to attend and provide input on how this project will affect you. Comments on this project can be submitted via the project website and by attending meetings listed below.
