One of the most important parts of my work as your Senator is hearing from West Anchorage constituents on the issues.

This week, we launched our electronic Constituent Survey! Please take a moment to share your thoughts and suggestions. I always appreciate your feedback!

Senator Murkowski and Representative Peltola Address

This week, Senator Lisa Murkowski was in Juneau for her annual address. She reminded us that "Alaska can't settle for 49th in anything but statehood." And last week, Representative Mary Peltola gave her first annual address to the Alaska State Legislature. Her address emphasized what she calls "the Alaska Model" — crossing party lines and working in a bipartisan fashion to do what's best for our communities. It was great to hear more from the Alaska delegation about their important work in Washington.

Legislation Update

This week, legislation sponsored by our office was heard in the Senate Health and Social Services Committee. Senate Bill 53, as we discussed in a previous e-news, was drafted in response to the tragic experience of a constituent in our district last year. We are hopeful that this legislation will address inadequacies in statute and improve public safety.

Today, the Senate State Affairs Committee will be hearing Senate Bill 28. This legislation is sponsored by our office and creates workplace violence protective orders. The bill is modeled after the process for domestic violence protective orders and intends to empower employers and employees to file a protective order in the face of violence or the threat of violence.

→ Update Your Voter Registration

The deadline to update your voter registration or register to vote for the upcoming Anchorage Municipal election is March 5. Ballots will be mailed to qualified, registered Anchorage voters on March 14. All ballot envelopes must be postmarked on or before Election Day, April 4, 2023.

→ Rave Mobile Safety Launch

The Municipality of Anchorage announced the launch of Rave Mobile Safety, a free public safety notification service that is replacing Nixle. Through Rave, residents can receive public safety alerts from state and local authorities via phone, text, and email. It will also allow residents to answer poll questions intended to give public safety officials critical information during emergency situations.

To join Rave Mobile Safety and input notification preferences, individuals will need to sign up here. Anyone who had previously subscribed for Nixle alerts will not be automatically enrolled in Rave.
