The Anchorage Municipal Election is Tuesday, April 7th. Anchorage votes by mail, and this week, the Municipality mailed ballots to all qualified voters in Anchorage.
There are 6 Assembly Seats on the ballot. In West Anchorage, voters will decide on Seat E in District 3. The candidates are Anna Brawley, who currently holds the seat, and Brian Flynn. There are also two Anchorage School Board seats on the ballot, seats C and D. The Seat C candidates are Alexander Rosales and Rachel Blakeslee and the Seat D candidates are Sharon Gibbons, Dustin Darden, and Paul McDonogh. There are multiple non-partisan resources to learn about candidates:
There are twelve bond proposals. Proposition one would authorize $79 million for public school maintenance. Proposition 9 is a one-time school tax levy for the Anchorage School District. This tax levy would not exceed $11.8 million and would decrease expected class size increases. The other bond proposals relate to parks and recreation, public safety, and transportation. To review the bond proposals, please see our last e-news.
Anchorage voters have several options to cast their ballots:
Voting By Mail
All Anchorage voters will receive a ballot at their registered mailing address. The Municipality sent out the ballots on March 17th. After filling out your ballot, make sure you sign the voter declaration! Then, you can return it in one of three ways:
→ Return via mail with first-class postage. Ballots must be postmarked on or before election day. If you mail your ballot near election day, take it into a post office and ask them to manually postmark the envelope. This manual postmark will ensure it's postmarked when you mail it and not later.
→ Return your ballot free of charge to one of 18 secure dropboxes around Anchorage. In West Anchorage, you'll find dropboxes at West High School, Dimond High School, and Spenard Rec Center. The full list of dropbox locations is here.
→ Return your ballot in-person to an Anchorage Vote Center at Loussac Library or City Hall.
You can track your ballot in the mail, from outbound to accepted, by visiting this link.
Voting in-Person
If you didn't receive your ballot or don't want to vote by mail, you can vote in person at an Anchorage Vote Center. West Anchorage voters can vote at the following Vote Centers:
→ Anchorage City Hall (632 West 6th Avenue, Room # 105)
→ Loussac Library (3600 Denali Street, First Floor )
These vote centers will be open the following times:
→ Weekdays, March 31 – April 6, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
→ Saturday, April 4, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
→ Election Day, April 7, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Other Options to Vote
If you will be out-of-town during the election, you can still cast your ballot safely and securely with one of three options.
