Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The Alaska Model - an example of collaboration across party lines - is on the rise. In this edition of Alaska Matters, I discuss bipartisanship in the Capital (and the kitchen).

A confidential source recently spotted the famed white raven of Spenard in Juneau, much to the dismay of Anchorage birders and Juneau legislators.

And finally, the indefatigable Alaska Landmine publisher and reporter Jeff Landfield proposed changing the Alaska Statutes to better reflect shifting national attitudes about canned meats.

The Art of Good PB&J

Bipartisan Edition

In today's video, I unpack the dynamics of bipartisan collaboration inside the sandwich capital.

White Raven Spotted in Juneau

A confidential source recently spotted the famed white raven of Spenard in Alaska's capital city. The raven seems to have traded the dumpsters of West Anchorage for the Capital Chambers.

Avian experts speculate that the leucistic raven feels more at home in an environment with an abundance of crowing and ruffled feathers.

Alaska State Fish Controversy

Spam or Chinook?

To no one's surprise in the Capital, Jeff Landfield, capital reporter and publisher of the Alaska Landmine, has suggested that the Legislature and the Governor agree to replace the Chinook salmon as the State Fish of Alaska with a Can of Spam.

"Salmon, Spamon," remarked Landfield at the Narrows recently, "Let's make sure Alaska is open and ready for business."

Landfield explained:

"While we must always advocate for the thriving wild salmon fisheries of Alaska - commercial, subsistence, and recreational - it's time now for a derelict sign and neglected obsession of Spenard to gain traction across Alaska."

We look forward to hearing more about Landfield's proposal in the halls of the Capital, between committee meetings and floor sessions.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
