In her speech, she highlighted the need for working together in our communities, in the Alaska Legislature, and in Congress, citing January 6 and other events that threaten to harm our governmental institutions. In the face of extreme divisiveness after January 6 and the pandemic response, Sen. Murkowski updated the us on the bipartisan congressional achievements that will benefit Alaska.
The Infrastructure and Jobs Act will strengthen Alaska's infrastructure, through federal investment and aid in transportation, broadband, and more.
Over the next five years, the State of Alaska should receive:
- 3.4 billion dollars to improve highways
- 225 million dollars for bridge replacement and repairs
- 1 billion dollars to improve the Alaska Marine Highway System
- 3.5 billion dollars for the Indian Health Service to build sanitation facilities, bringing water and sewer to rural communities; and
- 1.5 billion dollars to help provide broadband coverage across the state
Senator Murkowski spoke about the healthcare providers and leaders like Dr. Anne Zink, who led our community through the pandemic, her legislative efforts to bolster tourism and the cruise industry, the exciting work to create the Alaska Long Trail, and the mental health crisis in Alaska.
