Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This week, Alaska lost a political giant. Katie Hurley was Chief Clerk to the Alaska Constitutional Convention, served in the State House, and was an active leader in our community for many, many years. Katie was passionate about politics, and her passing is a reminder about the importance of being involved in local and state government and keeping in touch with our friends and neighbors.

Remembering Katie Hurley
Katie Hurley passed away on Sunday, a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday. One of Alaska's early women leaders, she worked with Territorial Governor Ernest Gruening and Governor William Egan. She served as president of the Alaska Board of Education, executive director of the Women's Commission, and State Senate Secretary.

|
She was the first woman to win a state-wide election when she was the Democratic nomination for Lt. Governor in 1978.
I took a few minutes this week to share some thoughts about Katie Hurley and her contributions to our great state.

Take Our Constituent Survey!
Please take a moment to share your thoughts and suggestions. I always appreciate your feedback!
The survey will remain open until March 8.

Earlier this month, the Alaska State House organized with a tri-partisan majority coalition to continue a tradition that began in 2017. While harsh partisanship all-too-often characterizes the political landscape in Washington, D.C., and the other 49 states, the Alaska House of Representatives is the only legislative body in the country that shares leadership among the parties. Alaska has much to be proud of.
