Happy Holidays! As the light begins to return and the days grow longer, it's a good time to share with family, friends, and neighbors and be thankful for our many blessings. May the celebration of Christmas and the coming New Year bring you and your loved ones joy and good health.

Please join me virtually to discuss the upcoming legislative session before we return to Juneau.

Federal COVID-19 Stimulus Package

On Monday, Congress passed a $900 billion COVID-19 relief package. Now, the bill will go to the President for final approval. Along with funding for vaccine distribution, here are some of the benefits to Alaskans:

Direct payments of $600/person in each the household for individuals making $75,000 or couples making less than $150,000 per year;
An additional $300/week in federal unemployment benefits for traditional and gig workers through March 2021;
$25 billion in rental assistance to tenants who have struggled to pay their rent during the pandemic; and
$284 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program to aid hard-hit small businesses.

The package also includes $82 billion in assistance for schools, colleges, and universities; $10 billion in assistance for child-care providers; and a federal eviction prevention extending until the end of January 2021.

Municipality's Second Round of Rent and Mortgage Assistance

The Municipality's second round of rental and mortgage assistance is now open. Anchorage residents who are struggling to pay their rent or mortgage due to the pandemic may be eligible for up to $2,000 in relief funds.

To apply, call 2-1-1 between 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday to set up an appointment. Funds will be distributed starting in January.

If you have already received rental or mortgage relief, you do not need to reapply.
