A New Legislative Era Begins

I'm thrilled to announce that the Senate and House have come together to form bipartisan majorities! This is a significant step forward for our state.

Senate Leadership

  • President: Senator Gary Stevens
  • Majority Leader: Senator Cathy Giessel
  • Rules Committee Chair: Senator Wielechowski
  • Majority Whip: Senator Kelly Merrick

House Leadership

  • Speaker of the House: Representative Edgmon
  • Rules Committee Chair: Representative Stutes
  • Majority Leader: Representative Kopp

As my time as Chair of the Legislative Council Committee comes to a close, I'm proud of the work we've accomplished.

I'm also honored to have been selected to serve as Chair of the Legislative Budget and Audit (LB&A) Committee during the 34th Legislature. The LB&A is like a watchdog, making sure the state government is using taxpayer money responsibly to ensure everyone gets a fair share and that the state is run efficiently.

Kimchi Day Festival

I was honored to participate in Anchorage's first Kimchi Day celebration at Wendler Middle School. The event was a vibrant celebration of Korean heritage, featuring delicious food, engaging activities, and captivating performances. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of this historic event and look forward to future community cultural celebrations.

My presentation highlighted the importance of embracing diversity in our community. I am thrilled to share that I will be re-introducing the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) education bill, which will require the teaching of AAPI history and culture in all Alaskan public schools. I am confident we will get the bill through this next session.

NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Gala Returns

It was an honor to attend the first Fairbanks NAACP Gala since the pandemic. It was wonderful to reconnect with old friends and make new ones, all while celebrating the incredible work of the NAACP.

I’m especially proud to once again share that this year, we achieved a significant milestone together: the passage of my Juneteenth bill, making Juneteenth a paid state holiday in Alaska. This historic moment is a testament to our collective efforts and a recognition of the importance of acknowledging and celebrating our history.

I look forward to continuing to work with the NAACP and the Fairbanks community to build a more just and equitable future for all.
