This legislative session, the Alaska State Legislature has been working diligently to ensure that our public schools receive the resources they need to serve every student across the state. I am proud to stand with the legislative majorities in our unwavering commitment to adequately fund Alaska’s education system.

Alaska’s public schools are facing financial challenges due to nearly a decade of stagnant Base Student Allocation (BSA) funding. Rising inflation, higher operational costs, and growing student needs have forced many districts to cut teaching positions and reduce course offerings. Without a meaningful BSA increase, school boards across the state are left making budget decisions
