On Wednesday night, the Legislature adjourned “Sine Die.” We are done for the year!

This week is the last week of regular session. Several important bills have already passed the Legislature, while we consider more legislation. Stay tuned for updates to issues including energy, education, and crime.

There is one week to go in the Legislative session. Last week, The Senate Judiciary Committee moved the consolidated crime bill, HB 66. The bill includes important pieces of legislation addressing public safety, victim’s rights, and criminal justice.

Last week, the governor signed two important bills into law. SB 24 establishes March as Brain Injury Awareness Month, and SB 93 changes the maximum payout for injured fishermen from the Alaska Fishermen’s Fund.

Happy Earth Day! Yesterday was great day to celebrate the place we live. In West Anchorage, we are blessed to reside on Dena’ina land. In honor of Earth Day and in the days ahead, there are many volunteer opportunities around town.

Happy Spring! With a little over a month left in session, several of our bills are making good progress through the Legislature.

Today marks the 85th day of session. This week, the House will hear the operating budget and proposed amendments on the House floor and the Senate will hear the capital budget.

The Alaska Model – an example of collaboration across party lines – is on the rise. In this edition of Alaska Matters, I discuss bipartisanship in the Capital (and the kitchen).

Our constituent survey is out! Thank you to everyone who took the time to give us their feedback. We received nearly 440 answers and present the results below. We value this constituent feedback and will use it to inform our policy decisions going forward.

On Monday, the veto override vote on the Governor’s veto of Senate Bill 140 failed by one vote. The Legislature will keep working to increase school funding despite this setback.
