I’m pleased to report that the Legislature was able to pass a a balanced budget that funds essential services, like public safety and education; pays a reasonable dividend; and does not draw from savings or require new taxes. While it did take a one-day special session to complete, the result was a fiscally responsible budget,
It’s Day 60 here in the capitol, and we’re halfway through the Constitutional 120-day session. By most accounts, we’ll be done before then.

We’re nearly a month into the 2023 Legislative Session. Everyone’s settled into their new offices and committee routines. Budget subcommittees are starting to dig into the Governor’s budget proposal, and that’s just one of the hot topics around the building.
