As President Trump’s signature budget passes the House, there are real concerns for the nation and especially our state. The bill represents the largest redistribution of wealth in modern US history giving the wealthiest the largest tax breaks while middle class and lower income citizens receive the brunt of the negative impacts and fewer breaks. The bill is over 1018 pages long and tucked into it there are many areas that will impact Alaskans. Below are some of the lowlights from the legislation:

Kodiak, AK – Earlier today, Governor Mike Dunleavy issued a proclamation for a special session to begin on Saturday, August 2, to take up two subjects: education reform and a Department of Agriculture executive order, both of which were previously addressed by the legislature during the 2025 legislative session. Senate President Gary Stevens, R-Kodiak, issued
Governor Dunleavy used a line-item veto to cut $200 per student from the Base Student Allocation (BSA), a first in Alaska’s history. This decision comes despite bipartisan legislative support to increase education funding and stabilize Alaska’s public schools.
