This weekend I am bringing doughnuts and coffee to the Mountain View Library at 10 am on Saturday (4/25/26). I will be available to help answer questions and concerns. Or just come for some coffee and a maple bar!
Last week legislators came together to pass a $700 increase to the BSA, the largest BSA increase in a decade. This legislation came in response to Governor Dunleavy’s disappointing veto of the previous education bill. The new version includes some of the policies the governor requested and was approved through the Legislature with a 48-11 vote. Governor Dunleavy has until May 17th to decide whether he’ll allow the bill to pass into law. Each of us in the Legislature recognize this as a compromise, and in the event of a second veto the likelihood of an override is high.

Juneau, AK – Today, the Alaska State Senate approved Senate Bill 214, the Fiscal Year 2027 Capital Budget. This budget includes a prudent spending plan that allocates a total of $248 million from Unrestricted General Funds (UGF) and unlocks nearly $2 billion in federal matching funds for important projects across the state. The Legislature is rounding out the 30 days of the 121-day session here in the State Capitol. As the final month begins to wind down, the committee process does too as only a few bills will continue on their approach to passage. There are many bills that remain in either the House or Senate Finance Committees or are awaiting final passage on the floor or which would be considered ‘dead’ and likely not to pass this year. Of the roughly 700 bills that are introduced in a Legislature, only 100 will end up passing both chambers and then go on to the desk of the Governor for his signature or veto.
