Each year, we send a constituent survey to get feedback on the legislative priorities for our district. By filling out the survey, you can weigh in on important issues such as public education, public safety, the dividend, and essential services.

Following last week’s newsletter about the Governor’s 12 new Executive Orders, the Senate introduced Special Senate Concurrent Resolutions to disapprove the Executive Orders. The legislature must decide whether to approve or reject these executive orders by March 16, 2024.

Last week, the Senate passed SB 88, which would establish an improved retirement system for public employees and teachers. This bipartisan legislation is an important step towards building a strong economy and recruiting and retaining employees in Alaska’s public sector.

Legislative work is in full swing. Last week, the House Rules Committee made amendments to Senate Bill 140, which involves broadband funding and public education, and the Senate Resource Committee continued work on the ongoing energy resources in Alaska.

On Tuesday, we gaveled in for the 2nd Session of the 33rd Legislature. 2024 marks my 10th year serving in the Alaska Legislature, and public service continues to be a true honor. Happy Holidays! As the days grow longer and sunlight returns, we hope your season is filled with good food and good cheer. It’s a great time to spend with family, friends, and loved ones. Our office is using this time to recharge and get ready for the next legislative session, which starts on January 16th.
