We are now over halfway through the Legislative Session. Lawmakers have been busy considering numerous bills on issues to include the budget, education, and infrastructure. There is still much work to be done in the remaining weeks!  

March is here and spring is that much closer! After a long winter, we will begin to welcome the signs of new growth, longer days, and warmer weather. February marks Black History Month, a celebration of Black achievements, culture, and history that has been observed annually in the United States since 1926. What began as “Negro History Week” proposed by noted historian Carter G. Woodson has grown into a month-long observance highlighting the many important contributions Black Americans have made to our society. 

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season spent with family and friends. As we begin 2024, I am filled with optimism and hope for what we can accomplish together during the 2nd half of the 33rd Legislature which begins on January 16th.

The Alaska Legislative Session is quickly approaching! The session is set to begin on January 16th in Juneau. With the start of the session a little less than two months away, I am gearing up for what I expect to be a busy session addressing the state’s budget and policy priorities.

National Native American Heritage Month, observed annually in November, holds special significance here in Alaska. As home to hundreds of Native tribes and the highest percentage of Indigenous people of any state, Alaska has deep ancestral and cultural ties to Native lands and traditions.

I hope you have had a great fall. Looking at the mountains, it’ll only be a matter of time before the snow blankets our city for the next several months.
